The Penthouse at Barrington House is a stunning, architect-designed, self-contained apartment set on the top floor of an impressive Victorian villa in Dartmouth. The apartment is breathtaking both inside and out with spectacular views of the River Dart from the impressive deck attached to its spacious lounge area.
Newly completed in 2012, 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom apartment, has been designed with young families firmly in mind thanks to the attention to detail of its owners, and neighbours, the friendly Smither family with their own brood of little ones. As well as its own entrance, two dedicated
parking spaces, contemporary interiors, two private terraces and amazing views, it also boasts a great selection of toys and nursery gear, making it the perfect coastal bolt-hole for a large family or several small families holidaying together. Mini guests will love receiving an invite to meet 'Barrington Bear' over a picnic in his tree house, or saying hello to the Barrington bunny AKA Smudge the rabbit.
Grown-up guests will discover that the apartment has been lavished with attention both inside and out. The spacious and safely enclosed balcony off the open plan living area is supplemented by further private outdoor space in the form of a rear terrace complete with BBQ, dining furniture and a decent amount of space for little ones to stretch their legs.
Inside, it has been beautifully decorated with coastal shades and accessories giving a relaxing and stylish feel. Comfortable contemporary furnishings have been selected to make the most of the apartment's greatest asset with picture windows in bedrooms offering the possibility of breakfast in bed with a view, whilst the floor to ceiling patio doors running much of the length of the open-plan living area, ensures the sweeping valley scenery can be enjoyed whether inside or out.
Bedrooms are luxuriously furnished, two with sumptuous king-sized beds and sleek ensuites complete with powerful showers, and a third with two singles, a wall-mounted TV and a clutch of bean bags making it a great little den for the kids.... perhaps even promising a lie-in for mums and dads as a result! The family bathroom definitely has a wow-factor with a large free-standing tub and wall-mounted taps. But the apartment's piece-de-resistance has to be the large open plan living area with its bi-fold doors that mean the inside blends seamlessly onto the large balcony. So, whether lounging and relaxing on the huge L shaped sofa, sitting
and swiveling on the kitchen stools, wining and dining at the dinner table, or
cooking up a storm in the very well appointed kitchen, guests can't fail to be
mesmerised by the view.
Gadget freaks will be in their element too with the instant hot water tap, wine fridge, induction
hob, waste disposal and Nespresso coffee machine
The Penthouse at Barrington House sleeps 6+cots in 3-bedrooms comprising tow doubles with king-sized beds, each with an ensuite shower room, and a ten with two singles and use of a large family bathroom. The open-plan living area boasts a dining table for six plus highchairs, an L-shaped sofa for four and additional armchairs/padded wall seats for six plus a well-equipped kitchen complete with induction hob, double oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle, wine fridge, instant hot water tap, waste disposal, built-in fridge freezer and Nespresso coffee machine. Outside their is a private balcony with toddler-height enclosure and a rear patio with dining furniture and gas BBQ.
Please note: The owners have an attractive tree house in their garden, which is mainly for their own children but mini guests are invited to enjoy it at a pre-arranged 'Teddy Bears Picnic' during their stay.
Barrington House and its Penthouse nestles on a hillside just 10 minutes walk from the very picturesque Georgian harbour town of Dartmouth. Known as one of the UK's most popular yachting havens, the town boasts a great selection of independent boutiques, bistros, cafes and convenient shops along its pretty cobbled streets. Boat trips depart regularly from its marina which is backed by a hotel with a luxurious little spa offering lovely treats for frazzled mums.
The award-winning, Blackpool Sands beach is within 10 minutes drive of the house and recently earned the accolade of being named Britain's Best Family Beach by Conde Nast Traveller and we'd tend to agree thanks to its handy car parking, cafe serving healthy kids meals and brilliant sand pit, which is ideal for little ones to sit and play in safety, as well as the wide sandy bay with shallow waters.
A little further afield there's Paignton Zoo, which has a great focus on conservation and animal welfare, as well as handy indoor soft play areas, should the weather not be ideal. There's also the fantastic Pennywell Farm Park with its animal feeding sessions, adorable miniature pigs and handy indoor play area. Steam train enthusiasts should head to Kingswear where a Thomas-a-like puffs up and down the coast thrilling little fans. Whilst the miniature pony centre at nearby Moretonhampstead is generally a big hit with mini riders too.
Foodies will not be disappointed, as well as the HQ of Riverfood Organics with its acclaimed kitchen cafe, there's the lovely Sharpham Wine and Cheese outlet with its vineyard and river tours with tastings, plus its
own onsite cafe too. Dartmouth also boasts a wide selection of well respected restaurants from fine dining at The Angel or Seahorse, to gourmet fish and chips to eat in or take-away at Mitch Tonk's family-friendly Rockfish Seafood & Chips.
