BFB's Overview

Nestled in the courtyard of a pretty cottage B&B, Reeves Barn is a luxurious bolthole for a couple with a baby and toddler seeking a sophisticated rural retreat or a base from which to visit the fantastic Longleat Safari park and Postman Pat Village just a few minutes drive away.

Arriving at the studio barn, guests sweep under the huge branches of an ancient willow tree and instantly feel they have stumbled on somewhere special. The barn's owner and artist Barbette, is generally on hand offering a warm welcome with tea and cakes or, if its later in the evening, chilled Prosecco and canapes, allowing parents to relax into their break whilst mini guests uncover the small collection of toys and books provided for them. If arrangements have been made, Babette can also have a delicious 3-course meal ready for the first evening or perhaps after a long day meeting four-legged friends at Longleat. The indulgence doesn't stop there as Babette delivers a daily breakfast hamper and ensures the studio's wet room is fully stocked with luxurious Cowshed toiletries. In fact, with a family-friendly pub just down the road serving decent lunches, there's no need to self cater at all but, should the mood take them, guests will find a small and perfectly formed kitchenette with single ring hob, microwave, fridge and sink, hidden within a clever cupboard in the lounge.

Babette's talents as an artist and evident not just in the painting scattered around the studio, but also in the restful palette of cool greys and warm yellows used in the interiors, along with the homely but elegant mix of antique and contemporary furnishings. She is just as talented as a host, discretely delivering daily breakfast hampers and 3-course meals, but also on hand for tips and advice on the local area making the overall experience of a stay at Reeves Barn as something more akin to that of a sophisticated yet family-friendly suite than a self catering studio.

Accommodation Overview - Studio

The studio barn is set within the rear courtyard of the B&B. It has its own entrance and parking as well as a dedicated outdoor seating area and shared access to the lovely quince orchard where mini guests can run off steam and explore. The barn itself has a large double bedroom with sumptuous antique double bed and space for a cot (travel cot available) or z-bed (on request). The studio is best set up for a couple and a young baby. (A baby bath can be provided otherwise there is a shower/wet room). There's an elegant wet room with scented oils and luxurious Cowshed toiletries. The spacious lounge has a pretty log burner, which is ideal for curling up in front of on the sofa with a glass of wine, watching a DVD on the TV or enjoying one of the many books provided on the well stocked bookshelves. On warm days, the large patio doors can be left open and little ones allowed to trundle around the courtyard on the wooden trike provided whilst parents enjoy drinks on the outdoor table and chairs. Wi-Fi is provided. If you would like to invite an extra adult there is a lovely self-contained Shepherds hut in the gardens complete with shower, this is charged at £80 per night.

Location Information

Reeves Barn is surrounded by quintessentially English countryside in the tiny hamlet of Whitbourne Springs, where Wiltshire blurs into Somerset. The area is crammed with lovely walks and Clay Hill is on the doorstep. Frome is the nearest town (4 miles) which has a bustling street market on Wednesday and Saturday, a good range of shops and a wide choice of cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Longleat Estate is just half a mile up the road from Reeves Barn which is a must for adults or families alike, from picnicking in the Capability Brown landscaped parkland and discovering the treasures of the fabulous stately home, to going on safari, seeing the new Gorilla colony and visiting Penguin Island. The Adventure Park at Longleat also has loads of other attractions for children, including feeding time for the Deer, Postman Pat Village, King Arthur’s Mirror Maze and lots more, plus there’s a variety of cafes, including a pizzeria and several gift shops.

Gorgeous Georgian Bath is only 10 miles away, to stroll around the world famous Crescent and visit the Roman Baths or simply indulge is serious retail therapy with all the designer boutiques and high street stores, taking a break in countless cafes, pubs and restaurants. Wookey Hole Cabes and Cheddar Gorge are just a couple of other major family attractions within easy reach of Reeves Barn.

If not sampling Babette's much admired cooking, there is a great choice of places to dine out within a short drive including the family friendly Bath Arms and the outpost of London's Soho House members club, Babbington House, both of which are within around 10-20mins drive. Outside of August, Babette can arrange babysitting so parents can enjoy a grown up 'date night' with a meal and cocktails at the members club, which is open to non residents/members who are dining.

  • Probably the perfect break away from it all with a little one. You feel as though you could easily be in Tuscany or the like. Stunning barn conversion, with some lovely design touches and Barbettes amazing hospitality. Her breakfast basket is also a real highlight. Highly recommended.Review dated 25/09/2016

  • A wonderful experience from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The barn itself was welcoming, quirky, well furnished and ideal for the three of us (our daughter is two and she seemed to be right at home straight away). The location was perfect not only for visiting Longleat (as we had planned before arriving) but also for trips to Frome, Wells, Stourhead etc... all of which we did on the advise of our host Barbette. Add to this the wonderful breakfast basket supplied each morning and it was the perfect place for days full of fun and adventure.Review dated 24/11/2015

  • Barbette was such a wonderful and accommodating host. So friendly with our baby and generous with her time. Breakfasts were absolutely delicious and to the highest standard. We also really appreciate that she allowed us to bath our son in the main house (shower only in barn) as well as washing baby clothes.Review dated 13/04/2015

  • We absolutely loved the barn and had a fantastic time. It really was a lovely place to spend a few days and the added touches for our daughter (highchair, cot, toys, etc) meant that she was comfortable and happy and made our lives easier. The breakfast hamper was delicious and definitely filled us up! We'd happily go back again.Review dated 30/08/2014
