BFB's Overview

"Like a boutique hotel but half the cost" is how one past guests describes the Post House and its adjoining 1-bedroom cottage 'The Old Bakery' and we couldn't agree more. With a bundle of 5 star reviews under its belt and, with a fantastic location in the peaceful village of Chewton Mendip, midway between Bath, Wells and Longleat Safari Park, this place won’t stay a best kept secret for long so we advise would-be guests to book up well in advance.

A chic little bolthole, The Old Bakery is part of a Grade ii listed building with the owner's luxury b&b, The Post House' taking up the other side. Lucky cottage guests benefit from their own private home from home with stylish French Provencal-style interiors, fluffy white robes, sumptuous towels, high quality bed linens and complimentary designer toiletries adding to the boutique hotel suite feel.

It is the perfect retreat for frazzled parents searching for a romantic break with in tow. After an indulgent breakfast, guests of the cottage can focus on unwinding, whether that be on one of the cosy lounge chairs, book in hand, or with wellies on exploring the local country walks and sampling the nearby cosy pubs. Those willing to venture slightly further afield will find the Georgian splendours, bistros, boutiques and spa at Bath just 20 minutes away, or Postman Pat's Village and a host of four-legged 'friends' at nearby Longleat. During balmy summer evenings guests can take to the private Mediterranean-style terrace with its dining set and daybed and enjoy a glass of wine over a spot of star gazing whilst little ones quietly sleep the night away after a busy day exploring. Come winter guests can curl up on the sofas in one of the fluffy robes provided with a good film and a cup of cocoa.
