BFB's Overview

Please Note: The Pool is closed for refurbishment until Feb. 12th 2016. Scaffolding will also be around the exterior of the hotel until Mid-March.

Remember those chic country retreats you used to go to before your little darling(s) arrived? All, huge V-Spring beds, Eygptian Cotton sheets, fluffy bathrobes, luxury toiletries and spas? Believe it or not, there are places just like that out there that are not only stylish and indulgent, but also boast a crèche and a seemingly effortless, never forced, feeling of family-friendliness. These little pieces of heaven for parents and their off spring are a collection of country house escapes from Wiltshire Worcestershire and Cornwall, to Dorset, New Forest and Suffolk. Each hotel has its own personality and unique vibe but all are an inspired mix of the contemporary and the historic.

Moonfleet Manor is a fine old manor house with beautiful views of the sea and a charming winding path down to Chesil Beach, an 18-mile strech of shingle and prime fossil hunting territory! Its interiors are best described as faded glamour, a charming, a mix of Colonial grandeur, Victoriana and quirky contemporary pieces. The style is eclectic and guests with young children will feel comfortable in the surroundings. The friendly laid back staff, squishy sofas, cosy fireplaces and play rooms, make it easy to relax and feel at home, within minutes of arriving . The bedrooms are great for families with Deluxe doubles plenty spacious with the children in the same room, whilst there are also interconnecting rooms, large suites and huge Coach House rooms with double sofbeds for families who require a little more space. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, direct dial telephones, satellite television, radio, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities. Shared facilities include an indoor pool, several spa treatment rooms, a creche, vast indoor play room and lounge bar (see grey box below for finer details).

  • We really enjoyed our time with Moonfleet, we loved the creche and room listening services. Staff were great too. However the accommodation for the price certainly needs a lift (to include the swimming pool). Also the bed in our suite - be it a fabulous antique -was very short (my husband was very uncomfortable)and considering we paid extra for the suite - we should have been made aware the bed was so short!Or perhaps they should make sure the suites have the bigger beds(as one would expect)Review dated 03/11/2009
