Set in the heart of the Vendee and nestling in an acre of pretty

Canadians, Shari and Warren, treated the Manoir to a sensitive
restoration in 2011 and now combine North American hospitality and
comfort with contemporary luxury and authentic French character. The six
newly renovated guest rooms and private gite (available from 2013) each
boast custom-made furnishings, luxuries in the form of super-king beds,
400-thread count linens, rainfall showers, sumptuous bathrobes,
Campagnie de Provence toiletries, Wi-Fi, LCD TVs and cocoon bath tubs,
all artfully blended with original Manoir features such as the high
ceilings, exposed stone walls and wooden floors.

with a long list of useful nursery gear from cots and Moses baskets to highchairs
and baby baths (full list in Fast facts), plus indoor toys, books and DVDs, and
swings, slides and trikes outdoors.
All ages will enjoy the delicious breakfasts are served daily in the
conservatory. Tables groan with tasty fresh bread, pastries, croissants,
cheeses and smoked meats, plus lovely homemade fruit jams
and fresh pressed juices from the Manoir’s very own orchards. It is also
worth noting that the handy shared guest fridges are great for
storing milk and baby treats and ensuring even the smallest member of
the family can be fully taken care of.
Come the evening, guests can either head out for a romantic meal
reserved by Warren or Shari, who can also pre-book trusted babysitters,
or follow an earlier suppe 'en famille' by retiring to the cosy study
with comfy chairs and fully stocked bar, baby monitor in hand. Along
with picking the brains of fellow guests, this also offers the
opportunity to quizz the Manoir's Canadian hosts for tips and advice on
planning the next day's adventure whether its heading out to one of the
many unspoilt beaches and towns along the Vendee's 'Coast of Light', an
action-packed day the the nearby 'Peu du Fou' medieval theme park, or
sightseeing in one of the many local towns such as Nantes, La Rochelle
and Les Sables D'Olonne, al are within about an hour's drive.
For lazy days closer to base, guests can make the most of the
extensive gardens, whether picking a quiet spot to enjoy a picnic in the
playing with the little ones in the paddling pool and picking fruit from
many fruit trees.The centre of the village is within a few minutes
stroll and comes alive on Friday mornings when the market takes place.
The village bar and restaurant tables bustle with people enjoy coffees
or lunch and taking in the scene.

The Maple family suite comprises two spacious adjoining rooms and can
be shared amongst friends or family. One room offers two twin beds (90 x
200) and the main room features a luxurious super king double (200 x200).
Both rooms boast hardwood floors and are furnished in a unique
contemporary design. Fine 400-thread count pressed cotton linens, microfibre duvet’s and
plush down and microfiber pillows make this suite a relaxing family
Like all Manoir du Moulin suites, it also benefits from an LCD TV and WiFi as well as access
to MDM’s mini bar. The bathroom in this two room suite is paved with
Italian tiles and features a large rain shower, cocoon shaped bathtub, heated towel rail, plush bathrobes, hair dryer and
Compagnie de Provence soaps and skin care products - everything needed for

Manoir du Moulin is located in the Vendee region which is
known as ‘the coast of light’ as it is said to receive as much sun as the Cote
D’Azur so is perfect for those looking to escape the dreary weather in search
of a spot of sunshine!
Nestled in its own extensive gardens, backed by parklands
the house is just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of the local village of
Sainte Hermine which has retained its rustic French charm and has two bars (one
run by an English family), a nice restaurant, boulangerie, butcher and even a
small cinema. Every Friday morning the village hosts a market featuring local
fruit, vegetables and seafood which is well worth a visit.
Perfectly located for exploring the country and the coast,
the Manoir is within 45 minutes from a range of beaches and coastal towns
including La Rochelle and the pretty Il de Re which has a selection of quaint
villages and a sandy beach. Keen surfers
should head north of the seaside town of La Tranche sur Mer (40 mins.) where
there is a string of three beaches La Terriere, Bud Bud and Les Conches which
back onto beautiful dunes and are a little known surfers paradise!
For family days out there are plenty of options to keep mini
guests entertained. For a theme park with a difference head to the award
winning Puy de Fou (40 mins.) which features a Roman Coliseum, live shows,
nightly spectacles and period villages- a big hit with mini history buffs! For
animal lovers Mervent Natur’zoo is a must, located 25 minutes drive away in the
heart of Mervent forest with over 200 animals that can be spotted roaming
through the extensive woodland. The zoo also has a large play area and mini
farm. Other recommended options include the Aquarium in Saint Hilaire (40 mins.)
and Chateau des Aventuriers themed adventure trails (30 mins.).
There are also numerous historic chateaux in the area open
to the public, some with shows, activities and entertainment for the kids.
Getting There: Manoir
du Moulin is around 45 minutes drive from both La Rochelle and Nantes international
airports. There are also fast trains leaving Paris for Nantes direct every hour
and take roughly 2 hours. Pick-ups can be arranged at the airport or train
station although your own transport is recommended for getting around the area.
Rental cars are available at both airports as well as at the train station in
Nantes. Manoir du Moulin is roughly halfway from Paris to Bordeaux and about 3
hours from Normandy.
