Sitting on the natural marina of Porto Petro, this unique waterside property may appear quietly unassuming at first glance but behind its traditional white crisp exterior hides a vibrant playful character with nautical ‘shabby-chic’ decor and bright open living space. The fabulous location is all the more special when guests discover the pretty sandy cove a short stroll away and the house's multiple terraces to the front, side and rear, which allow for lazy days or evenings drinking in the views, whilst little ones are tucked up in bed.
Porto Petro has managed to avoid being swallowed up by tourism thanks to its lack of an obvious beach but those in the know will be more than familiar with the port’s intimate delightful sandy coves only a short stroll around the headland, whilst the majesty of S’Amarador and the National Park of Cala Mondragó, with its crisp sands and inviting turquoise surf, are only a short drive away.
Outside, there are three terraces comprising a roof terrace, which benefits from all day sun and sun loungers; a side terrace overlooking the garden with dining table; and a large front terrace with dining table and lounger chairs - perfect for evenings of alfresco dining. There is also a gated yard area to the side of the house with space for sun loungers or children to play. It has a selection of shrubs, small trees and flower beds. The house doesn't have a pool, but there's a small beach behind the house house (see photos) which has a good beach/pool restaurant owned by the hotel Blau. Besides the many restaurants in the port, guests can also use the restaurants in the hotel (which is 5 stars) and if dining at the hotel, you can stay for the entertainment arranged there for guests. They also have a spa and several pools.
Inside, Harbour House has a shabby chic nautical feel. There's a spiral staircase set in the centre of the house connecting the three floors, with the bedrooms on the ground floor, and living/dining on the middle floor. The large living area has been stylishly decorated, and has several sofas and large dining table with six chairs. There are hand coir/sea grass woven rugs, original commissioned paintings and handmade wall hangings, which give the room a wonderful individual feel. The large patio doors can be opened bringing the view of the harbour and sailing boats into the house.
The nautical theme is carried on into the galley kitchen with microwave, oven and hob, fridge/freezer, which is bright and well stocked with everything a family would need for their stay. A separate utility area houses a washing machine and a wet room with a shower in which both inflatables, toys and children can be ‘hosed’ down instead of spreading the beach through the house.
The three bedrooms are all set on the ground floor and comprise a double bedroom and two twin rooms, one of the twin rooms can either be made into another double or with two single beds, whichever is preferred. A second bathroom is also to be found on this floor with a toilet, basin and bath/shower. All stairs in the house are gated for toddlers, as are the front steps and terrace.
Gated parking is available in the harbour for residents.
Harbour House enjoys a prime spot on the marina at Porto Petro, which is a relatively sleepy marina village on the south of Mallorca, a short drive from Cala D'or and on the edge of the pine-clad hills and unspoilt beaches of the Cala Mandrango National Park. There are a small selection of bars and restaurants within a short walk, plus a couple of supermarkets, two of which bake their own bread daily, and a small cove beach also within a quick stroll.
Getting There: Porto Petro is approx. 40 minutes drive from the city of Palma and its airport.
