With Gorse Cottage looking straight out into the New Forest, it’s not unusual to see ponies, deer, donkeys and even an Old Spot pig ambling past the front gate! Its location could hardly be much better, with the popular village of Brockenhurst just a mile away, and the owners have really geared up Gorse Cottage with families, babies and children in mind.
Although the New Forest wildlife is literally on the doorstep, children can safely play outside at Gorse Cottage in an enclosed lawn garden, complete with a sunny dining patio for parents to relax and get the BBQ sizzling, while little ones potter around a play house or scoot around on a tricycle. Overlooking the garden, Gorse Cottage also has a stunning conservatory dining room where the sun streams in all year round and this has specialist glass and blinds to keep it cool in the summer and cosy in winter.
Gorse Cottage was extended and updated in 2013/14 and has since been commended with the prestigious 5-star gold award from the English Tourist Board. It’s now bright and modern throughout, boasting a gleaming white, Italian designer kitchen with all the latest appliances as well as new bathrooms, new furnishings, Wi Fi and BT Satellite TV. In the lounge, there’s room for everyone on the new, L-shaped leather sofa, to watch favourite programmes or a DVD on the 50” flat-screen TV, or play with the host of toys and games provided, from jigsaws and Jenga to good old Trivial Pursuits. A baby bouncer and baby rocker are also provided, along with a long list of helpful baby gear from baby food warmer and bottler steriliser to a high chair, Moses basket and baby buggy.
With 5 bedrooms in total, 3 of which are en-suite, Gorse cottage is ideal for extended families and friends. Three of the bedrooms are on the ground floor and one of these, the Garden Room, has patio doors into the garden. Two Dormer bedrooms have most recently been added including the new master bedroom in soothing grey and cream, with views over the New Forest countryside.
Whilst the New Forest is a natural playground for picnics, wildlife spotting, bike rides and pony trekking, Gorse Cottage has the added bonus of being just 400 metres from the Balmer Lawn Hotel, where families can buy day passes to use their leisure facilities, including indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, Jacuzzi, sauna, gym and tennis courts.
Gorse Cottage is modern Dormer bungalow with 5 bedrooms, that comfortably sleeps up to 10 people plus a baby in a cot, which is provided. The 6.8 x 3.5 metre living room, with smooth wood floor, is furnished with a 7-seater, L-shaped leather sofa and matching pouffe, 50” wall-mounted flat screen TV with BT Satellite channels and a DVD player. The designer Italian kitchen in gleaming white was fitted by Neatsmiths of London and includes a large range oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, drinks cooler fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, De Longhi toaster, kettle, children’s crockery and cutlery etc. Off the kitchen, a sunny conservatory overlooks the garden and busy bird feeders, featuring a dining table for 10, wicker armchairs and sun blinds. Three bedrooms are on the ground floor: 1 double bedroom has a luxury ensuite with walk-in double shower, heated pave effect floor tiles, heated towel rail, washbasin and wc; a second double bedroom has patio doors to the garden and an ensuite shower room with WC; the third ground floor bedroom has twin beds, suitable for adults or children and the brand new family bathroom is next door. The master bedroom is one of two Dormer bedrooms, with views of the New Forest, a TV, DVD player and ensuite shower room. The other Dormer bedroom has twin, 3ft zip link beds that can be made up as a super king size bed and this room also has its own TV and DVD player.
Gorse Cottage is in a prime location at the heart of the New Forest, just 1 mile from the major village of Brockenhurst which has easy road and rail links from London and the motorways. Meaning Badgers Wood, Brockenhurst is brimming with olde worlde charm but also buzzing with all the vital amenities, from butchers, bakers and grocery shops, including a small supermarket, to cafes serving lush cream teas, a good range of restaurants, take-aways and pubs.
Just an hour and a half from London, The New Forest is 92,000 acres of amazingly unspoilt countryside which is famous for its wonderful free ranging wildlife, ancient forests and grassy heaths. Right from the doorstep of Gorse Cottage families can head out with a picnic to follow footpaths and cycle trails through the idyllic English countryside, almost certainly spotting the mini New Forest ponies, donkeys and perhaps some deer along the way. Cycle hire is available in Brockenhurst or how about pony trekking from stables such as Burley Manor. The cottage has a bicycle shed and lockable bike rack if you wish to bring your own bikes and has been awarded the prestigious Cyclists Welcome and Walkers Welcome certificates from the English Tourist Board, for its excellent facilities.
Besides being a beautiful natural playground, the New Forest has some fab attractions as well, the most famous being Beaulieu Palace, gardens and National Motor Museum. One not-to-be-missed highlight of family holidays is definitely Paultons Park, which is not only home to the fun Peppa Pig World but also more than 60 roller coasters, rides and attractions for all ages, including an 8,500 sq ft kids’ splash park, daily penguin feeding and a giant, Mr Magoriam-style toy shop.
The New Forest rolls right down to the south coast, wedged between the grand old seaside resort of Bournemouth and Southampton (13 miles). The nearest sandy beach to Gorse Cottage is just 7 miles away at Lepe and Lymington (5 miles) is a pretty coastal town with quaint cobbled streets, boats bobbing in the quays and ferries across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
