The owners of Gellideg have enhanced all that’s lovely about a traditional Welsh cottage with their 5-star finishing touches and, having a child of their own, these include all the essentials for parents with a baby or toddler.
Every care has been taken in the renovation to maintain the charm and character of the cottage while giving it the chic and luxurious ‘boutique’ treatment. Beamed ceilings, slate hearth and a decorative Rayburn all maintain the traditional, cosy ambience where families can feel quite at home, playing games and doing puzzles by the wood burner (large fireguard provided) or enjoying a family meal round the farmhouse dining table – high chair, children’s crockery and cutlery already here. Guests have a tasty welcome treat to look forward to on arrival and the owners provide a basket of fresh produce for their first breakfast at Gellideg. Parents can bring themselves round in the mornings with a frothy cappuccino or creamy latte from the de’Longhi barista coffee machine and children can settle down to enjoy their favourite programmes and films on the flat screen TV and DVD player, or plug the HDMI cable into an iPad, the iPod into the docking station or log into the free WiFi.
From the kitchen, double glazed French doors lead out to a patio with a table and four chairs, plus a second patio up some steps near the kitchen has a couple more armchairs and coffee table where grown-ups can steal a few minutes peace. Beyond the patio, Gellideg has a private, fenced garden where children will have great fun playing hide and seek around the topiary box hedge parterre and living willow wigwam, or just burning off some energy on the lawn. Adults can simply watch on, maybe with a glass of something in hand, enjoying the views, the birds tweeting and blazing sunsets.
When it’s time to sleep, the cottage’s two bedrooms are snuggled under sloping eaves of the first floor and beautifully finished with tasteful decor, high quality furniture and luxury fabrics. The master bedroom has a balcony with a bistro set overlooking the garden and views beyond, plus the bathroom next door features a powerful over bath rain-shower and double ended bath for parents to share a relaxing soak, gazing at the stars through the skylight above. The second bedroom is set up with a 3ft single bed which has another 3ft bed underneath that pulls out to make a twin room, with the bed either at standard height or kept at floor level for toddlers. The travel cot provided can also be set up in here instead of the second single bed. This bedroom has a handy ensuite, with a shower, basin and WC – toddler toilet seat and step provided.
Gellideg sleeps a family of up to 4 people plus a baby in a cot which is provided. The master bedroom has a king size bed plus space for a cot and the bathroom next door has a rain shower, double ended bath and WC. The second bedroom can be set up as a single room, single room with a cot or as a twin room and has an ensuite shower room with a WC.
