BFB's Overview

Domaine de la Tour is a magnificent 18th century farmhouse, situated in peaceful countryside close to the town of Falaise, Lower Normandy. Once part of a greater property including a chateau constructed by Louis XV for one of his favourites, Madame de Seran, the farmhouse has been entirely restored to a high standard. What is most impressive, is the attention to detail in baby/toddler facilities, as well as parent-friendly services. It is literally a case of just bring yourselves and your clothes, the rest is supplied! See Fast Facts panel (left) for more info.

The gîtes are set in 7 hectares of lovely grounds offering a tranquil retreat in which to relax and unwind. Formerly stables to the nearby chateau, the building is now two semi-detached 4-bedroom gîtes sharing a communal play room set across the courtyard. Each has been entirely renovated whilst keeping their authentic charm, with a spacious living areas complete with leather sofas and satellite TV (all BBC channels including Cbeebies), a DVD/CD/MP3/SD-card player, and a library of DVDs for kids and parents. Wi-Fi internet access is also available. The modern kitchens are equipped with all mod cons including dishwashers, microwave and washer dryers. Upstairs, there are two floors, each housing two en-suite bedrooms. There are three twin rooms which can be made up as double bedrooms and one triple room. Two of the four rooms have space for cots to be added and, although there's no bath tub (all shower rooms), a baby bath is amongst the long list of gear provided for mini guests.

There is a shared playroom equipped with plenty of toys for the under 5s and nearby table tennis for older kids (and their parents!). There are extensive grounds in which to play outdoor games and enjoy picnics and the little ones can enjoy petting the animals in the paddock.

Domaine de la Tour is a great option for extended families or several different families wanting to holiday together with plenty of space for everybody, old and young alike.

A 20% discount on all crossings with Brittany Ferries when booking the property. Please request details on reservation request form.

Location Information

Domaine de la Tour is situated 1km off the main road, surrounded by 500 hectares of forest and agricultural land. The nearest town is Falaise, just a few minutes drive away where you will find two large supermarkets, a variety of shops, restaurants, banks, bakeries, an aquatic centre (with a special zone for under 5s) and weekly market on Saturday morning. There are miles of golden sandy beaches, a zoo, theme park suitable for toddlers, safari park and model railway all within about 40 minutes drive. A very comprehensive ‘Tried and Tested’ comment book at the property is filled with tips and advice from past guests, all of whom have had babies and toddlers in tow, since having a child under 5 in-tow is a pre-requisite of a stay here.

Getting There: It is within easy reach of the ports of Caen (50 minutes), Cherbourg (2h), Le Havre (1h45m), Calais (3h45m).

  • The accommodation was fabulous the kids had a great time, the setting was beautiful and the owners were really nice. I would thoroughly recommend it!Review dated 03/11/2009

  • We have stayed here 3 times over the last 2 years with our children aged between 6 months and 3 years old and it is the perfect place to have a long or short break for families with children. Accomodation in the Gites is of a really high specification and equipped with everything you would need.Good outdoor play area and one indoors should the weather not be so good.Lots of great walks near by and close by to Falaise and Caen and the D Day beaches for days out.The owners are really friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend this place highly enoughReview dated 03/11/2009

  • We stayed here with some friends and our children and had a lovely time. The accommodation was stunning and really comfortable, the surrounding area was beautiful and the owners made us feel really welcome. There was plenty to do in the local towns and the children were never bored! They especially liked the swimming pool in Falaise! We plan to return in future and would recommend this as a great place to stay for families. Review dated 03/11/2009

  • An Amazing place for families - everything including the kitchen sink was there. Wonderful hosts, beautifully clean, gorgeous surroundings and incredibly peaceful. Plenty to see and do around the area come rain or shine. Would highly recommend without hesitation. We have found holidaying with a toddler quite difficult and this was by far the easiest we have done - terrific. Well done to Mark and his wife for a wonderful holiday.Review dated 03/11/2009

  • A great holiday had by all. Didn't get time to enjoy all the local places to visit in the area. The gites itself was packed full of stuff for babies and kids and both the indoor and outdoor toys were ideal. All the bedrooms were spacious and well layed out, I thoroughly recommend this gites for all wanting a great holiday in NormandyReview dated 03/11/2009

  • The gite was beautiful and enormous. The owners were friendly and extremely helpful. The playbarn is fab as is the outside play area; Falaise is a sweet town and there a lots of things to do within a short drive. Only negatives are: the beach isn't that close (over 30km); it is quite expensive in high season(although big enough to share with friends to lower the cost); the weather wasn't much better than the UK - good for kids, not so good for me!. Owner responds: Many thanks for the feedback. Delighted you had a great break and so sorry your stay co-incided with some unseasonal weatherReview dated 03/11/2009

  • It is in a lovely yet very convenient location - the gites are next to a stunning chateau among rolling fields and woodland, yet the boulangerie and hypermarket are only a few minutes' drive away. The facilities are great - the playroom is big and very well-equipped for little ones: with so much space and so much to interest her, my baby finally started crawling. The 3 year-old was well occupied too, both in the playroom and outside on the swings and slide. The gite is comfortable and the downstairs room is light, airy and spacious. Upstairs the bedrooms are simply but pleasantly decorated and if there's a bit too much plastic laminate flooring upstairs, well, at least it's practical with messy toddlers around! We would have liked to have had blackout blinds in the kids' rooms but otherwise were very happy with the set up. What really impressed us about DDLT was the attitude of the owners, Mark and Noelle. They gave the impression that they had really thought about what makes a difference to families with young children, and nothing was too much trouble (happily supplying us with a hosepipe to fill up our paddling pool, and offering to accompany us to the police station when we lost our passports). They have thought about lots of little touches - e.g. a book of excursion suggestions from other visitors, a set of bibs next to the steriliser, a meal delivery service from a local restaurant - which make a stay there all the more enjoyable and relaxing.
