This gorgeous Grade II listed stone cottage is the perfect country escape with tots in tow. It has two bedrooms and lovely contemporary country interiors blending Cath Kidston prints with sophisticated Farrow & Ball shades on the walls, a cosy woodburner in the lounge and a pretty courtyard garden for lazy summer afternoons and evenings once the little ones are tucked up in bed. Alternatively, use the cottage's fantastic concierge service to arrange babysitting and nip down the road to one of the village's two pubs or sample the bars and bistros of Stamford, just four miles away.
The attention to detail at Two Chapel Lane is what makes it really special and is evident not just in the interiors and list of baby gear (see grey Fast Facts box), but in the fabulous 'Two Extra' concierge service too.
Call them up and arrange anything from a fridge full of M&S ready meals on arrival, to breakfast hampers, champagne, flowers, chocolates and local tour guide or restaurant bookings. They'll even do your laundry!
Simply pack some clothes, make the call for shopping, babysitting, Michelin award winning restaurant booking and arrival champagne and head off for an indulgent break... Just be warned, you may not want to come home again!
Two Chapel Lane sleeps 4-6 in two bedrooms comprising a king-sized double and a standard double, plus a double sofa bed in the lounge. The bedrooms share a family bathroom with shower and bath. Downstairs is a lounge with books, games, some toys, On Demand TV, digital radio, DVD player and library of films. Plus a dine-in kitchen with electric oven, gas hob, microwave, integrated washing machine, dryer and dishwasher. The pretty courtyard garden has table, chairs, and outdoor lighting.
Two Chapel Lane is situated in the pretty village Rutland of Ketton (approx 2hrs from Central London), just four miles from the Georgian market town of Stamford. There are two local pubs, a convenience store (with post office facilities) and a church; all just a short stroll away.
Rutland itself is a well-kept secret. Set in the east of England, just north of Cambridgeshire, it has charm to rival the Cotswolds or the Lake District but, thanks to its lower profile, far less tourists. Film-makers have discovered its beauty though; the area has recently featured in the film of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, The Da Vinci Code and the BBC's adaptation of George Eliot's Middlemarch.
The cottage has easy access to a variety of activities and events including sailing, fishing, bird watching, cycling, golf, concerts and the theatre as well as cosy pubs and some excellent restaurants. Stamford (4 miles away) also offers some great shopping including stylish boutiques, gift shops and specialist food stores.
Highly recommended for junior guests is Sacrewell Farm Park (3 miles). Hidden deep in the heart of the countryside and spread over 35 acres, this former 18th Century mill has a host of friendly farm animals to pet and feed, a Shire Horse Centre,
working watermill and fun tractor rides, plus toddler-friendly indoor and outdoor play areas.
For parents, Michelin Pub of the Year (2008), The Olive Branch, is in nearby Clipsham (advanced booking recommended) and excellent for a posh lunch en famille or a special evening out with the help of a babysitter. Don't miss the homemade lemonade and barbecues in the summer!
