Set near the beautiful hilltop village of Monte San Martino with almost 360 degree views of mountain peaks, lush green farmyard and the sea beyond, Casa Lola is the kind of place that melts away stress and tension within moments of arriving. Just one look at the breathtaking views surrounding its pool is all it takes before even the most world-weary urbanites feel the strains of their day to day life subside and a blissful holiday feeling begin to kick in.
Once they've got over the view and venture inside, parents will find a host of thoughtful touches designed to make life easier both for them and their offspring including a useful list of nursery gear (see grey column on right), a smattering of toys and a handy indoor play barn with trampoline, ride ons, ping pong and table football – no prizing for guessing where Dads will be hiding out after dinner!
Accommodation Overview
Inside the house offers a blend of original character and contemporary home from home comfort. Set over three floors and with numerous outdoor living spaces, the house is ideal for large groups, allowing everyone the choice of being sociable or tranquil.
The ground floor is home to the 30ft lounge with exposed stone walls, TV and DVD player. There's a well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, Smeg fan oven and microwave, and indoor dining area, although it might seem churlish to dine inside and ignore the beautiful surroundings. There's also a W.C. Up an (ungated) external terracotta staircase (as is traditional in this part of
Italy) you are led to the bedrooms and bathrooms. On the 1st floor there are
three of the five bedrooms comprising a large double and two twins plus a
spacious family bathroom. on the second floor there is a double and twin
bedroom, with adjoining shower room.
To owners have ensured there are plenty of places to enjoy the house's beautiful setting, whether it be whilst drying off at the poolside pergola seating area, enjoying a spot of alfresco dining from the shade of the wrap-around terrace, or taking a wander around the fragrant fig, olive and fruit tree lined garden.
All in all Casa Lola is the perfect rural retreat for large family/friend groups with a real feeling that everyone has been catered for, from the long list of baby gear to selection of cookery books in the kitchen the house clearly aims to please and doesn't disappoint!
Casa Lola is set on a hilltop with a 360 degree view
over a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, close to the
Sibillini national park. There is a lake at the bottom of the valley
with a deer park close by. The nearest restaurants Osteria Del Lago and neighbouring pizzeriaare are within a few
minutes drive on the lake.
There's also the town of Monte San Martino within 10 minutes drive. The
town is well served by a bank, small supermarket, bakery, chemist, post
office, doctor, hairdresser, two bars and two excellent restaurants.
Beaches:
The Le Marche coast is within 50mins drive of the villa and boasts more
Blue Flag beaches than almost any other region in Italy. The resorts
span the range from glitzy, hotel backed promenades dotted with beach
clubs and fantastic for people watching, to pretty coves fringed with
pine tree forests and backed by pretty medieval towns. The latter are
mainly found along the Coneo coast with Sirolo being possibly the
prettiest town and beach, although it does require a trip on one of the
half-hourly buses from the Piazza to get down to the sands. Also
recommended is Grottammare. This smaller resort on the southern Marche
"Palm Riviera" boasts 5km of fine sandy beaches and a pretty
traffic-free promenade, backed by some splendid examples of seaside Liberty architecture - grand villas that date back to the turn of the last century.
Walking: For
lovers of walking, Casa Lola is on the edge of the Sibillini National
Park & a short drive away there are some of the most beautiful
treks be undertaken in Italy. Possibly the most famous is the journey
up to Lago di Pilato (it is said that Pontius Pilate is buried here),
and also Gola dell'Infernaccio (Hell's Gorge) where it is possible to
visit the hermit monk, perched at the top of the crag with his
hand-built church. The local walking near to the house is outstanding as
well; it's possible to walk to Amandola along pathways. It's a 1/2 hour
steep walk down to the lake where you can get a cold beer from the
friendly Osteria to cool you down - best to have a driver pick you up
after that than tackle the uphil trek back!
Getting There: The airport at Ancona is nearest at about 90mins drive, whilst Pescara is next closest at around 2hrs drive.
