Casa Lavender is lovely, rustic-chic 3-bedroom private villa with pool which has been recently renovated by the friendly, multi-generation, Webb family. The Webbs are originally from the North of England and run the popular Hotel Mijgorn, which is set in the same extensive grounds and has long been popular with BFB users. They are well versed in the needs of mini guests, especially since they have a few little people in their ranks, and provide a useful list of baby gear, as well as a very handy pre-arrival grocery and baby essentials shopping service that is a Godsend to those running the gauntlet of ever increasing low-cost airline baggage limits.

Lucky guests renting the villa will enjoy the best of both worlds since it enjoys a secluded setting in its own gardens with a private, gated pool, but is just a short stroll from the communal pool, bar and dining area of the hotel. So, should the mood take them, guests can dip in and out of sociable situations with other young families by enjoying a G'n'T by the bar, or soaking up the atmosphere at one of the hotel's twice weekly BBQ/Chef nights. Parents can also take advantage of other handy, hotel services including; babysitting, arrival night meals and an English speaking, on call doctor. When a break from the cooking is in order but a day on the beach has worn everyone out, the owners can offer a handy frozen meal service which can either be ordered 24 hours in advance or stocked ready for arrival, making a relaxing night in even easier!

Set on a quiet lane, just 5-10 minutes from the beautiful sandy plains of Es Trenc beach and 35 minutes from Palma airport, the house is ideal for those looking for an easy yet relaxing getaway with tots in tow. It is fully air conditioned, has essential baby kit (see grey Fast Facts box) and very handy BBC TV including Cbeebies, which is handy for dragging little ones out of the midday sun for some shady relaxation.

The interior style is rustic chic with exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and warm terracotta tiles, offset with wrought iron bed frames, comfy neutral soft furnishing and hand-picked, wooden antiques.

Accommodation Overview:

Guests enter into a spacious yet homely lounge with comfortable sofas and a log burning stove. The floors are tiled throughout in terracotta whilst the walls are warm gold and honey-coloured exposed stone. Leading off the lounge is a large kitchen with windows overlooking the lavender garden and a door onto a small terrace. The open plan kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, oven, hob and large American style fridge freezer. The dining area provides seating for six.

Two of the three bedrooms are set on the ground floor and are accessed through the living room. Bedroom one is a large room with a double bed and space for up to three cots or children’s beds. There is a door which leads to the family bathroom (accessed from living room also) with shower but no bath. Bedroom two, again large in size, has two single beds with double doors leading onto the lavender garden terrace. This room has room for 2-3 cots or child’s beds.

Up the tiled staircase (gates are provided) there is a master suite which occupies the whole first floor. It comprises a large double bed, a good-sized walk-in wardrobe, which can accommodate a cot as a small nursery, and plenty of space for 2 further cots or child’s beds. The room has its own log burner, giving it a wonderfully romantic feel in cooler months. It is light and airy with plentiful windows and a set of doors leading to a roof terrace, which has magnificent, panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. There is an en suite again with a shower.

Outside, the finca is surrounded by fragrant, mature gardens including a dedicated lavender section which gate the villa its name. The gravel driveway provides plenty of parking space whilst the several terraces allow guests to enjoy the gardens from the comfort of the sun loungers or the handy covered al fresco dining area, which overlooks a lawned area, which is ideal for tots to play on.

The pool is set away from the house' main gardens and fully fenced, with a number of its own sun loungers. It is accessed via steps and gradually slopes from the shallow end into the deep.

Despite its tranquil setting there are several little towns with decent supermarkets and good restaurants within 5-10minutes drive of the hotel. Plus, Es Trenc beach, reputedly the best beach on the entire island, is only 5mins away. However, families often find Cala Santanyi (10kms) more convenient as you can park close to the beach, easily hire beds and sun umbrellas, and there are family-friendly restaurants. The town itself is also popular due to its combination of charm and traditional architecture with interior design boutiques and international restaurants. The twice weekly markets in the town square has hand crafted jewellery, flower, fresh local produce and leather goods stalls. Arrive early and people watch from one of the many cafes or restaurants lining the square.

Alternatively, stay at little closer to home and hire bikes (trailers and child seats available) via the hotel and cycle to the nearby beaches and villages - the perfect way to burn off some of chef Craig's excellent cooking!

Getting There: The villa is set in the grounds of Hotel Migjorn, which itself is just 35minutes drive from Palma Airport, serviced by low-cost airlines from most of the UK's airports. BFB finds that www.skyscanner.net is the most user-friendly flight finder.

Car hire is highly recommended but not essential, since taxis can be affordable and there's little need to wander too far.
