This cluster of 14 stylishly converted 19th century farm cottages (sleeping 2-10) enjoys a wildly beautiful setting with uninterrupted views of the Cheviot Hills and within a short (30min) drive of the spectacular Northumberland coast. Formerly part of the world-renowned Cragside Estate (now owned by the National Trust), the 14 luxury holiday cottages blend the romance of original 19th century character with contemporary luxury. Subtle Farrow & Ball colours and acres of soulful solid oak fixtures and fittings give them a elegant, high quality feel; whilst modern luxuries in the form of flatscreen TVs, DVD players and iPod docks add to the indulgence.
The combination of a list of useful nursery gear, a scenic setting, extra-thick luxury mattresses in every master bedroom and Northumberland having recently been scientifically proven as the most tranquil county in England, means a relaxing stay is practically guaranteed even with tots in tow!
Outside the cottages, Burnfoot offers plentiful opportunities for budding wildlife spotters with Otters, deer, badgers, owls, kingfishers and many other rare birds often seen in and around the lawns. Plus a private tennis court for any would-be tennis stars to hone their game.
Accommodation Overview
West Lodge: The former hay store at Burnfoot has been transformed into a 2 bedroom luxury cottage sleeping 4 guests plus infants. There is an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with full height ceiling, exposed roof timbers, oak furniture and contemporary leather sofas. The living area has a charming little fireplace with a small contemporary log-burning stove, as well as a flat-screen television with Freeview, DVD player and iPod dock. The main feature of this living space is the ten feet wide west-facing glass wall which floods the area with light and makes it a great place to sit in the evenings. The cottage's kitchen is finished with oak block worktops, integrated stainless steel hob, oven and chimney hood, washing machine, fridge and microwave. The first bedroom is a double with its own patio door on to the terrace. The second bedroom is a twin with two 2ft 6in beds that can be made up as a king-size if preferred. There is also a modern family bathroom with electric shower and glazed shower screen over the bath.

The cottages enjoy a very scenic rural setting nestled between the Cheviot Hills and the River Coquet, approximately 20mins drive from the coast. They are just a short walk from the village of Netherton, which boasts the Starr Inn, an authentic old pub, little changed in 80 years and a regular feature in CAMRA guides (children welcome up till 7pm).
The nearest town is Rothbury, which is a ten-minute drive away and has a supermarket, restaurants, tea rooms and a wealth of antique shops and art galleries. The 'Italia Plus' bistro at the Coquetvale Hotel has won several awards and offers a great value kids menu between 5pm - 6pm, along with takeaways, which can allow parents to have a drink whilst little ones eat and enjoy their take away in the cottages later the same evening. Rothbury also has its own golf club and discounts available for guests staying at Burnfoot. Other golf courses in the area include the challenging Goswick course, a British open regional qualifying course.
A little further afield (approx 15mins drive) and a MUST for Harry Potter fans is Alnwick AKA Hogwarts, which as well as starring as the famous school has brilliant play fountains (bring spare clothes!) and a very good restaurant in the form of a tree house, which is always hugely memorable for little ones and pretty well liked by parents too.
The many pretty fishing villages of Northumberland's coastal national park are within half an hours drive along with no shortage of country pubs. The Black Bull, Northumberland’s only thatched pub, is well worth a trip with its great menu of home-cooked meals, warm welcome for families and pretty beer garden.
