When owners Alice and Trevor discovered this charming Cornish
hideaway, the couple immediately fell in love with the place and it
is easy to see why.
Blanches Windsor and the adjoining Blanches Meadow (3-beds) enjoy an amazing setting,
nestled in a virtually private valley, between Fowey and Looe, in 3-acres of
south facing gardens, with views over rolling countryside to the sea. The
Cornish coast path is just 10-minutes walk and a smugglers track leads to the
stunning Lansallos Cove with Caribbean-like clear water. The horseshoe bay is
idyllic for playing, paddling and swimming but guests also have free access to
the luxurious indoor heated pool and tennis courts at the family friendly Fowey
Hall Hotel Spa (short drive). As if that wasn't enough to guarantee parental relaxation, there's a huge list of handy baby and toddler gear to make light work of packing, and a fabulous ready-meal delivery service from local company, Red Earth too... all in all, rather idyllic. Blanches Windsor is a spacious and well equipped stone house
for up to 10 family and friends, with pets welcome too. The house is not
striving to be super chic or boutique but the homely comfort, fantastic range
of baby gear and the dream setting means it is still a winner in the BFB
book. A big, beamed farmhouse kitchen provides the natural heart of the house and boasts a banquet sized dining table for tucking into
delicious Cornish food, beginning with
a complimentary cream tea on arrival. Organic fruit and vegetables are
available from the garden when in season
and there's refreshing water from a private spring. The expansive drawing room
has another wood burner for cosy nights in, with a TV, DVD and CD players, Ipod
dock and wi fi available. One of the five bedrooms is located downstairs, with
a single bed, large bathroom and private entrance making this a handy self contained corner
of the house for a nanny or grandparent. The glorious garden is where the house really comes into its
own, with terraced lawns and lots of secret corners for youngsters to play hide
and seek while grown ups pick a spot to gaze on the fantastic sea views.
Everyone can watch out for a variety of feathered friends visiting the well
stocked bird feeders and there's also a
sandpit with buckets and spades, swirly tennis, boules and a croquet set. Accommodation Overview: Blanches Windsor is a spacious 5-bedroom family house for up
to 9 people, plus babies in cots. The house has one king size bedroom, one
double bedroom and two twin-bedded rooms. Three bedrooms have beautiful views
over the gardens and the valley to the sea, two have wash basins and there's
also a large family shower room, with twin washbasins and wc. A single bedroom,
with additional pull out bed is located downstairs, with a large bathroom and
private entrance. There is also another separate wc downstairs.
The kitchen is well-equipped with microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer added to the standard gear. Blanches
Windsor and Blanches Meadow can be rented together to provide plenty of
accommodation for up to 14 people.

Blanches Windsor enjoys a prime and exclusive location in Cornwall, as one of just a handful of properties in the idyllic hamlet of Lansallos, with views of the sea and nestled at the head of a beautiful, almost private valley. A 10-minute walk down the valley leads to the coast path, passing sheep and cows along the way, then Lansallos Cove is a sheltered horseshoe bay 20 minutes walk away where children can swim.
The picture postcard fishing village of Polperro is just a short drive, with a jumble of cottages tucked into a wooded ravine, winding traffic-free streets around the little harbour and a notorious smugglers heritage. The bustling port and yachting haven of Fowey is also just a short drive or the Bodinnick car and foot passenger ferry is a more adventurous way for families to get there.
A short drive in the opposite direction, at the mouth of an emerald wooded estuary, Looe is a thriving harbour and holiday town, famous for it's fresh caught fish and seafood.

lice and I live in London with our two boys aged 4 and 7. We get down to Cornwall whenever we can and spend time in Blanches, which is why it feels like a well-loved family home and not a holiday let. As soon as we arrive, the boys rush off into the gardens to play. You'll probably find a few of the dens they and the many other children who stay with us have made in the garden. The goat shed is a popular one! |
We regularly rented a holiday house in Fowey after our oldest child was born. We love the area and often found ourselves crossing the Boddinick Ferry to explore the country lanes and unspoilt beaches to the East of the Fowey River. Most of the coastline between Fowey and Polperro is owned and protected by the National Trust or farmed by families that have lived and worked in the area for generations. Blanches is one of a small handful of private houses in the area with a view of the sea and its position at the head of a beautiful, almost private valley is second to none. We immediately fell in love with it and if you come you will see why!

The properties are fully furnished and equipped as spacious and comfortable family homes. They are large enough for big groups but have a cosy feel about them. The gardens are like a mini Heligan, with graceful lawns and a valley garden. It's a magical place that children adore. You can watch about twenty species visit the bird feeders next to the house. The walk down the valley or along the ridge is breath-taking. We sometimes see deer. There is a wide range of activities for children indoors, in the garden and on offer a short distance away: walking, swimming at Lansallos Cove, sailing, people watching or eating in good restaurants. For a rainy day, we include free use of the swimming pool at the Fowey Hall Hotel and the world famous Eden Project is a half hour drive away.
