This former 18th century cow shed has recently been
transformed into three cosy cottages ideal for families with young
children thanks to their tranquil rural location and the thoughtful
extras provided by owners, TV producer, Lowri and talented chef Ludo,
whose delicious creations are offered for guests to help themselves to
in the 'honesty larder'.
Along with Ludo's homemade goodies, the beautiful scenery and acres of land surrounding the cottages are amongst their best features. The acres of safely enclosed grounds enable parents to relax about letting little ones roam and junior guests delight in simple pleasures of playing with outdoor toys and painting pebbles. Paints can be provided for mini guests who often find inspiration on one of the many unspoilt beaches within 20minutes drive of the cottages, most of which have barely changed in the last 100 years or more.
Accommodation Overview
Interiors are contemporary country cottage-style with good quality
antique pine furnishings and handmade kitchens complete with cooker,
hob, fridge, washing machine and microwave. Lounges come with TV, CD and
DVD Players, plus a selection of toys, kids DVDs and bedtime story
books. Upstairs each cottage has a double and a twin bedroom, plus a
shower room stocked with baby bath and complimentary toiletries,
including ones for mini guests! Each cottage also has French doors from
their open-plan living areas to a screened rear terrace with garden
furniture and BBQ area.

Blaenwenllan is set in a small hamlet a few miles north of the pretty riverside town of Newcastle Emlyn which has a good selection of shops, banks, bistros, cafes, delis and a beauty salon offering a range of treatments.
A large number of pretty unspoiled sandy beaches are within 15-20 minutes drive of the cottage and are perfect for rockpooling, beachcombing and paddling. Tresaith is ideal for a lunchtime walk as it’s overlooked by a pub serving good quality adults and children’s meals. Other must-visit beaches include the pretty cove at Mwnt which is a frequent haunt of the local seal and dolphin community and New Quay, a seaside town from where fishing and wildlife spotting boat trips can be taken. Some of the region's best restaurants are also fairly close to the cottages. The Harbourmaster at Aberaeron, Llys Meddyg in nearby Newport, and the Penrhiwllan gastro-pub, are all well worth arranging babysitting for.
A little further afield at around 45mins drive, Folly Farm is a brilliant wet weather day out thanks to its petting farm, tractor tours, indoor Victorian fun fair, soft play and huge adventure play zone, most of which are under cover. For boutique shopping, art galleries and ceramic painting cafe, cross the border into Pembrokeshire and visit the pretty town of Narbeth... try to resist the chocolate factory tours nearby!

This property is very baby friendly and my 9 month old daughter was very well catered for with a lovely basket full of baby toys for her to play with on our arrival. My 7 year old daughter also enjoyed our trip away and enjoyed spending time outside on the swings and other equipment provided for the children.

Owner Profile
Lowri is from the area and despite living the high life as a TV producer in London and Cardiff, her heart was always here, she just had to persuade Ludo to leave his job as sous chef in one of Wales' best regarded restaurants to move. She broke him down in 2006 and he now mans the range at their gastro pub just down the road in Newcastle Emlyn... crayons provided!

When parents can drag them away from the play areas at the cottages, our mini guests love going Dolphin spotting at Mwnt or on seal spotting boat trips from Cardigan Bay. Plus the ever popular Folly Farm, farm park and indoor Victorian fairground. Or if the weather's not great for the beach, the Blue Lagoon at Bluestone leisure complex means you can pretend your on the beach at least - with it's shoots, slides, outdoor 'river' and warm baby pool - a firm favourite for all the family. For the smaller guests there's also Teifi Mania, a large indoor soft play area - perfect for a rainy day.
