Design-savvy parents will adore the Whitehouse, a beautifully
restored Georgian country house scattered with contemporary classic
furniture and art, and a laid back, family-friendly attitude. The cool
interiors, well-stocked house bar and inspired menus are faultless,
whilst the 'can do' attitude to kids food, tepee and club house hidden
amongst the spacious lawned grounds, and, best of all, the
child-friendly screenings in the funky bean-bag filled cinema room will
be a big hit with kids of all ages.
Guest bedrooms feature huge and hand-made wooden beds, some as large as
7ft wide, cool wall coverings, Frette linens and bathrobes and gorgeous
custom-blended toiletries, which come in full size bottled for use in
the bathrooms -room 5's bathroom is the size of an average hotel room ...read more inside
... and has often been transformed by guests into a tots bedroom. The toiletries also come in sample sizes as part of the nightly turn-down
service. Dad-friendly gadgets come in the form of 42" flatscreen TVs,
full SKY HD, DVD players, IPod docks, CD players and Nespresso coffee
machines alongside kettles, locally blended teas and chiller stuffed
with wines, beers, juices, snacks and complimentary milk and water. In
the shared hallway, a huge chest stuffed with DVD classics, latest
releases and kiddie favourites, along with the large in-room
flatscreens, make lazy morning or evening film screenings a very
tempting proposition.
Whilst most guests relax in the screening room or one of the cosy
lounges with (safely screened) open fire places and huge comfortable
arm chairs or chaise lounges, co-owners and hosts Matthew and Tamara
are always on hand offering cocktails, soft drinks or delicious
cappuccini from their impressive barista-kit. Partner in crime, Ali,
cooks up a storm in the kitchen with an inspired menu based on fresh
local produce and Mediterranean influences. The unusual but totally
delicious herby popcorn and nuts served with nightly aperitifs is
typical of her imaginative creations. Parents can bring their own baby
monitors to enjoy long evenings in the restaurant, bar and lounges
which are just a flight of stairs from bedrooms, but can also enjoy
meals in their rooms, or pre-book babysitting – although, with possibly
the area’s best restaurant in-house, there’s little need!
Outside the spacious lawned garden is safely enclosed and, with the
exception of a small pond set back from the main garden, lends itself
very well to babies and toddlers finding their feet, whilst older tots
will adore the tepee and 'club house' (TBC) stocked with a small
selection of toys and slightly screen by hedges, giving it a den-like
feel.
