Museums can be a bit hit and miss with my kids. One hint of dry and dusty and they are begging to be allowed to spend a fortune in the gift shop. But this one is a definite hit. What’s not to like about a place dedicated entirely to the toys from all of our childhoods?

Everything from train sets and Transformers to skateboards and soldiers are covered in a series of themed rooms where you can lost in interactive displays, recall outdoor adventures, or let the small people have a hoot getting togged up as Victorian school pupils or tiny chimney sweeps in the Story Gallery .

If you fancy a couple of hours of grown-up awesomeness to, you can take a stroll through next-door 17th century Sudbury Hall, a wonder of wood carvings and beautifully painted murals kept in fine fettle by the National Trust.

A special exhibition of boys’ toys kicks off on Father’s Day. For more info, go to www.nationaltrust.org.uk/sudburyhall or call 01283 585337.
