Baby loves disco…
February 9, 2011
Sitting at the kitchen table, covered in glitter paint and pvc glue as my son worked on another abstract masterpiece for the front of the fridge, I was pretty sure that my raving days were over. Then I spotted this one and thought I might dust off my boogie shoes for a spot of day-time dad dancing…
Baby Loves Disco has got to beat another chilly weekend wandering around the park with junior at this parent-testing time of year. The company behind it liberate a funky nightclub from its usual audience of 20something hipsters and turn it into a childproof disco for afternoons of full-on dance fun for kids from 6 months to 7 years.
A real DJ gets behind the decks to mix proper tunes (banish any nightmare thoughts of gritting your grown-up teeth as your tots get on down to the Tellytubbies theme tune played at 120 decibels), there’s face painting, a chill-out zone, bubble machines, and private karaoke for the whole family.
The small people can pick their way through a whole spread of healthy snacks and juice boxes to keep their energy levels up while (non-driving) dads can sneak off to the licenced bar for a liquid liven-up of their own.
Electric Circus in Edinburgh will become the latest host’s for Baby Love Disco, kicking off with a dance party afternoon on February 27th, continuing on every Sunday afternoon until May 8th. Tickets are £8.
But if you live elsewhere, don’t despair – there are already tiny tot dance spots in London, Bristol, Brighton, Manchester, Glasgow, and Stirling. Take a look at www.babylovesdisco.co.uk for all the details.
Personally, Scarlett, Fin and I will be strutting our stuff some time soon. The List described it as ‘frighteningly authentic…think of this as a kind of junior Studio 54’. What’s not to like?
