BFB Loves…. Sparkle & Spin-Cool Kidswear…

BFB is a big fan of the inspiring collection of cool kids clothes, toys and interiors at online fashion boutique Sparkle & Spin so we’ve asked  them to compile a list of top tips for stylish tots…..

At Sparkle & Spin we’ve been busy getting creative with our wardrobe and putting together great new looks for the little ones. We think if you stick to a few essential rules and shop smartly you can create a cool capsule wardrobe that will see your little one through the season.

1. A great pair of jeans are a must have and this season they come in a rainbow of colours. Choose a classic denim for a simple, classic look or go quirky and join the fashion pack with a candy coloured denim from cool brand ESP No. 1
2. A lightweight knit is essential for those cooler Summer days (and nights!), luxury Danish brand FUB make simple, chic knits in super soft knits that oozze comfort and style.
3. A super cute dress takes the number one spot in all the little ladies wardrobes. We love this butterfly print dress from Scandinavian brand Molo. A pretty print, dip dye and a few frills makes it a perfect party princess dress.
4. Choose graphic print tee-shirts that can be teamed with jeans, shorts or cords for a fun and quirky look but avoid loud logos and cartoon characters that will date and go out of favour with your little one.
5. Add a splash of colour. Don’t be afraid to add in bright blocks of colour. Mini Rodini’s yellow cords work really well and if you’re not ready for that much colour use accessories like bags and hair bows for that splash!

Oh and remember if you get stuck and need styling tips or advices we are only a click away at www.sparkleandspin.co.uk!!

BFB Loves… Half-Pint Chic – Discount Designer Gear for Kids

When you come to packing for that long awaited family break this spring break deciding which clothes to bring for your little ones can become a challenging task for any parent. BFB asked  Nicole Frost, founder of designer children’s clothing boutique Halfpintchic.com ,to  gives us a heads up on how to pack sensibly for the holidays.

Layering… The key to any travelling wardrobe – even for us adults – has to be layers. We can’t rely on the good old weather forecast anymore especially if you are staycationing in the UK. Be prepared for all seasons, even if you do get a warm spell, by carrying light layers which you can add or remove in an instant. Cardigans, light jackets and sweaters are the perfect combination over a T-shirt or top to add some warmth without compromising on style.

Wellies … Every kiddie suitcase should include a pair of colourful wellies. Springtime can get very wet and don’t forget a nice thick pair of socks, especially if boots are not lined.

Party time …You’ve packed the jeans, the tops and the trainers but don’t forget a nice smart outfit for dinner or party time. You can make your suitcase lighter by replacing tops and skirts with a couple of pretty dresses for the girls or a smart all in one. Stick to simple shoe designs which can be easily matched to any outfit.

Packing skills…Finally, according to what you have planned for your holiday it’s always a good idea to pack the first days clothing on top working your way into the suitcase with the last day’s outfit at the very bottom. This will make life easier for you so you won’t find yourself wrestling with your luggage to find what you are looking for.

Register for free on halfpintchic.com and shop for quality brands for the half term break at more than half their retail price.

Funky, Fairtrade & Fashionable Piccalilly…

Picalilly

Over Fairtrade Fortnight I caught up with Hannah Evans, founder and designer of the gorgeous bright children’s clothing range Piccalilly. All the ranges are ethically produced and where possible made with Fairtrade certified organic cotton, so you can shop free  from any guilt.

The collection is perfect for beach and outdoor holidays. Choose between stripy towelling dresses and trousers in bright yellow and blue for girls and boys; playsuits and rompers for babies.  You get two looks for the price of one at Piccalilly as many of the clothes are reversible.

“Reversible clothes are great for kids on the move. If you are out and about and kids being kids they get messy, simply turn the clothing inside out to ‘freshen’ them up!” says Hannah. “Stylish clothing is a top priority but we’re not in the business of ‘fast fashion’ and dressing babies and kids in comfy clothes allows them to move freely – keeping them happy!” I’ve got my eye on the towelling hoodies for blustery days at the British seaside.  Check out the new Spring Summer collection at Piccalilly.

Breton Stripes

hector hoody

Stripes and the seaside go hand-in-hand, which is why I felt so cheery when the French clothes company Bibaloo emailed me some snaps of their Spring collection.

New this season is one of my favourite brands Weekend à la Mer – it’s achingly French and reminds me of long sunny days pottering around in Brittany. Breton stripes are as historical as practical – they were uniform for the French Navy and favoured by  sailors in Northern France mainly because the block pattern of stripes was easy to spot amidst the blurred colours of the waves.

Not that we are anywhere near summer judging by the weather this week, but as our thoughts move towards warmer days and holidays, you can get in the mood with some stripy purchases at Bibaloo.
