Enjoying a tranquil small farm location yet just a mile or so from the
beautiful beaches and excellent bistros in popular Bude, this quartet of
pretty former farm outbuildings have been transformed into four
luxurious escapes, ideal for small families.
Aptly named after
shells, Abalone and Periwinkle Cottages have one bedroom a piece, whilst
Cameo and Oyster have two. Interiors in all four are high spec with
luxurious underfloor heating, Philippe Starcke showers, plasma TVs and
DVD players, plus well equipped contemporary kitchens, with dishwashers,
microwaves and washer-dryers. Most rooms are flooded with light thanks
to their high vaulted ceilings and light, bright decor. Their airy
open-plan design is ideal for those with crawlers or toddlers in tow as
they can roam freely but always within sight. Beds are indulgent with
electrical position adjustment and, although there are no tubs, baby
baths ensure shower-shy little ones are just as happy in the luxuriously
fitted bathrooms as their parents - especially when transfixed by the
in room TV.
Outside there are plenty of four-legged friends to
interact with at feeding time with the pet Kune Kune pig, Jacob's sheep,
hens, geese, goats and doves all calling the farm home. There's a large
central lawn on which little ones can burn off energy on the ride-on
toys and brilliant wooden play tower (not suited to under 3s) provided.
Mums and Dads will appreciate the farm shop which stocks fresh produce
reared or grown on the farm including delicious sausages, bacon, eggs
and tomatoes - all you need for a hearty breakfast!
The
combination of their convenient location, just back from North
Cornwall's Atlantic Highway, and within a mile or two of Bude, plus
their practical yet luxurious design, long list of useful nursery items
(see list in grey box) and on-site attractions for mini-guests, Atlantic
Cottages is the perfect coastal chic escape for pre-school families.

From its setting just off the Atlantic Highway, the cottages are only a
20 minute walk by farm track to the village of Stratton with its
friendly pub serving good food, especially the Sunday lunch. The
bustling beach town of Bude with its many great beaches, bistros and
bars is just a few minutes drive or a 40 minute walk away. Crooklets and
Summerleaze beaches are ideal for young families thanks to their gentle
slopes, golden sand and rock pooling opportunities. Both are patrolled
by lifeguards in the main season. Summerleaze is also home to one of
Britain's few tidal pools, which fills up with seawater at every
high-tide and makes for ideal safe bathing. Bude's also a great spot for
eating out. The newly opened Castle Restaurant overlooks the canal and
Summerleaze beach and comes highly recommended with its Chef coming from
London's Bibendium and using only the finest local ingredients. Kids
feast on smaller portions from the main menu.
In such a lovely
part of the country it's a shame to be indoors but if weather dictates
it, there's a brilliant indoor ball pool and soft play centre and fun
splash pool (both at the Harlequin Centre) within a few minutes drive. A
little further afield, Trethorne Leisure Park, Milky Way and Big Sheep
are great distractions, each with special zones for babies and toddlers
with ball pools, soft play and ride on tractors etc.
For a great
night out, don't miss the chance to sample Rick Stein or Jamie Oliver’s
restaurants which are within 40 minutes by car/taxi. Be sure to request
a sea view table at Oliver's Fifteen and enjoy the breathtaking beach
sunset view over aperitifs. Closer to home, the aforementioned Castle
Restaurant, ‘Life's a Beach’ and the ‘Elements’ bistro at nearby
Widemouth are also well worth arranging babysitting for.

My family and I stayed at Atlantic Cottages, near Bude this Easter - we had a fantastic time. We stayed in Oyster Cottage which was very well equipped, immaculatly clean and even roomier than we expected! The farm itself was a real hit with our 4 year old son. We were made to feel really welcome by Verity and her family and he loved feeding the new lambs. We would highly recommend Atlantic cottages to anyone looking to take a family break in North Cornwall. We never normally go on holiday to the same place twice but Atlantic Cottages and its location had everything we look for in a holiday so I'm sure we'll be back.

Just wanted to say a big thank you. We recently stayed in Atlantic Cottages in Bude which we booked through your site. Every detail had been thought about and the owners were really really helpful and friendly. They made sure our children got to see, touch and feed all of the animals which was great. The accocomdation was to a very high standard so as well as the children having a lovely holiday, we felt spoilt too. Thanks so much, we will use your site again.

Only comments to vendor were the absence of any garden furniture for the
patio / terrace and we questioned the suitability of the glass dining
table in the kitchen, given the material in question, sharp corners and
risk to small children running around. Otherwise, superb! We've booked
next year already.
Owner Profile
In 1999 my father had a vision to take a small run down farm just outside Bude and turn it into something fabulous. He wanted a farm that you could walk around in your slippers and for everything around him to be immaculate, he wanted to sell the best lamb and pork in the area and to have the tastiest eggs, he wanted to have fabulous accommodation and for his guests to feel truly welcome. This was no small task and it was another 8 years before he welcomed his first guests. The farm had been transformed, four barns had been converted into Gold Award winning 4 star accommodation, our Tamworth pigs and Jacob Sheep were doing their jobs(!) and that dream about the slippers?... It is still a farm after all but were are nearly there! |
Our guests love it here and now in our third year they are returning time and time again. The best compliment that we frequently get is that we are child friendly in the true sense of the words.

Children will love it here. The grounds are beautifully laid out with gravelled paths around the farm leading to our animals. Pass the time of day with Connie, the Kune Kune pig or take Breeze, the pony an apple, check out the geese, chickens, Jacobs sheep and Pygmy goats. If you follow the path to the top field there are breathtaking views to the cliffs and the sea.
![]() Around the cottages Tess, the dog, is always looking for someone to play football with and our cats can be found sleeping the days away in the sun.
