Derbyshire is a perfect family friendly destination offering attractive and often mountainous scenery, with the Peak District National Park lying mostly in the county along with the Pennine range of hills. For family holidays, there are many fun activities to be enjoyed in the area and plenty of child friendly hotels to lay down the children’s weary heads at the end of the day.
For history buffs, limestone caves on the Nottinghamshire border show evidence of previous tenants dating back from 12,000 to 7,000 BCE and the burial mounds of Neolithic settlers can be found dotted around the entire area.
Other more fun activities include Gullivers Kingdom in Matlock Park, a family theme park with great rides for the kids to enjoy. Close by, Matlock Park Aquarium is a must see with its carp pool and parents will enjoy the fossil and gemstone display along with a vintage chinaware collection.
For animal lovers, the Chestnut Conservation and Wildlife Park in High Peak is a great day’s outing for the kids, as is the Chatsworth Farmyard and Playground in Bakewell along with the Matlock Farm Park, set in a 600 acre working farm.
There is baby friendly accommodation available in all areas for convenience and ensure peace of mind during the family’s holiday.
