Cumbria in North West England is a lovely destination for family holidays. One of the most popular aspects of this county is the gorgeous Lake District and Lake District National Park, offering amazing scenery and a range of activities for the whole family.
For the history buff, there are several exciting historic sites to visit including Furness Abbey, Carlisle Castle and the iconic Hadrian’s Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The area not only offers many child friendly hotels, but also a range of exciting activities for all ages. The South Lakes Wild Animal Park in Dalton-in-Furness offers lions, tigers, giraffes, rhinos, hippos, penguins, kangaroos and more, in fact probably the widest range of wildlife on offer in the U.K.
For more exotic wildlife, the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis in Milnthorpe is also well worth a visit, offering much information and hand-on displays to educate the children. In Ulverston, head to the Lakes Aquarium, which even includes an underwater tunnel where children can watch the amazing diving ducks. For dad and the boys, much fun can be had at the Lakeland Motor Museum in Newby Bridge, offering around 30,000 exhibits in a lovely riverside setting.
Among the unusual and fun theme parks, Fuzzy Eds at the Owl and Pussycat is great. Located in Barrow In Furness, it includes a great indoor play area for those not-so-nice weather days and a specially dedicated toddler zone. Magic Castle Adventure Playground in Carlisle is another fun option, offering multi-level medieval-themed fun, including castles and moats and a great time for all ages.
Cumbria offers much more in the way of fun activities and baby friendly accommodation, making it an ideal location for the whole family.
