This picture-perfect stone cottage, nestled in the grounds of an elegant 18th century manoir, is a truly idyllic romantic retreat for a couple and a baby. Newly refurbished, its interior includes a charming and spacious double bedroom in the eaves, a luxurious bathroom, an exceptionally well-equipped and high quality kitchen, and a pretty lounge-diner with sofa seating in front of an antique wood burner - perfect for cosy and romantic evenings!
Outside, the cottage has its own private terrace and enclosed garden area, including a dedicated sand pit for lucky mini guests, plus access to the estates 17 hectares of glorious grounds including tennis courts,
outdoor swimming pool (April - Sept)
and cycles (some with baby seats).
As lovely and well-equipped as it is, what really sets Le Cottage at 4 Rue de la Dive apart is the truly outstanding attention to detail in providing family friendly gear and services, from cots, highchairs, sterilisers, baby baths and blenders (see Fast Facts), to babysitting, meal delivery and pre-arrival shopping services. Like sister properties, La Cour aux Bourgeois and Domaine de la Tour (use 'similar properties' button to view), also managed by Sarah Caille of Toddler Holiday, it truly is a case of just bring yourselves and your clothes, because the rest is supplied.
Past guests have raved about the warm welcome from owners and hosts, Peter and Dedire, and their fantastic chef/housekeeper service, which, for a very reasonable costs, sees them deliver a meal, lay the table and even clear up after - it is the perfect treat from frazzled parents desperate for a special and romantic evening without babysitting. Top it off with post dinner drinks on your terrace and most guests are heading to the local estate agent before their week is out, hoping to find their own permanent slice of French paradise!
Ground Floor - Open-plan living/dining area with comfy sofa, TV & DVD player, fireplace with woodburning stove. Kitchen (microwave, oven, fridge, washing machine). Separate toilet. Stairs leading up to the First Floor - Spacious double room in the eaves (wooden cot), Bathroom (bath, separate shower, sink, toilet). This really is a fabulous cottage and location - the grounds are amazing, so when you are at home you can wander to the swings, go and say hello to the donkey, swoosh through the weeping willow to the secret play area, play tennis (we marched the travel cot and toys round there and set our little one up on the grass surrounding the court!). The location is also amazing - close to fab markets for provisions, and within walking distance to the most amazing bakery we have ever come across in our times travelling around France - and that is some accolade! We have been recommending the cottage to all of our friends with babies - it is beautifully finished to a very high standard, and really is the perfect place to relax and unwind - with lots of places to visit no more than a 30 min car journey away for jaunts out. Oh - and to round it off - Deirdre and Pete will cook gorgeous meals twice a week and serve it to you on your candlelit terrace - a meal out without the hassle! Just perfection

Comfortable cottage, recently tastefully renovated, particularly suitable for getting-away-from-it-all style breaks. Friendly engaged owners, good toddler facilities and nice garden/grounds. We had a pleasant relaxing break, and felt quickly at home. Owners can also cook, so the meal-in-the-cottage was also a good experience (... although I ate too much!).

We have had the nicest week. The kids have been captivated by the house, all the facilities, and the animals! We would highly recommend Deirdre and Peter's 'eat-in' option. Delicious! An aperitif in front of a roaring log fire is the perfect end to a day on the go.
Did lots of kid-friendly outings. The tennis court was a big success - the Dads even managed to knock a few balls around most evenings, dodging the kids on tractors, bikes and scooters. Perfect.

With ages from 2 3/4 to 67, there was fun had by all! Exploring the many beautiful villages and meeting the delightful locals, we have loved our time here. Wishing we had booked 2 weeks - the amenities have been fantastic. We very much hope to be back in the near future!

Owner Profile
An Anglo-French family, Sarah and Laurent Caille plus toddler and bump moved to Normandy from London in August
2002. Drawing on our (disastrous!) first experiences of holidaying with a baby we dreamed of
creating a holiday destination dedicated to young families - somewhere that was beautiful, comfortable yet practical for parents and fun, interesting and safe for young children. The dream became La Cour aux Bourgeois which later developed into the Toddler Holiday concept including La Ferme de Longues, 4 rue de la Dive and Domaine de la Tour. |
We love Normandy because it offers an authentic French life-style but it is just a hop across the channel to get here. Its beautiful scenery and fantastic coast never feel crowded and it's so easy to get around.

The playbarn without a doubt. Whenever we ask about their favourite part of the holdiay it's always a toss up between the trampoline and the sandpit. It also seems to be a favourite with parents since it offers them some down time when the kids are so happy to stay in there!
